FAMOUS PEOPLE IN HISTORY OF YOUR COUNTRY

You are going to give a talk about famous people in history of your country. You will have to start in 1.5 minutes and speak for not more than 2 minutes (10—12 sentences).

Remember to say:

• who they are when they lived;

• what they are famous for;

• what you like or dislike about them;

• what your attitude to the famous people in the history of your country is.

You have to talk continuously.

Now I am going to tell you about famous people in the history of my country. I would like to tell you about A. S. Pushkin and F. M. Dostoevsky.

* Pushkin was born in Moscow and was a writer and poet. Dostoevsky was also a famous Russian writer, who lived in Moscow. Both of them lived in the 19th century.

* To tell the truth, both are famous for their impressive works. Pushkin’s most famous poem is Eugene Onegin. One of Dostoyevsky’s most popular works is Crime and Punishment. Most Russians know those novels.

* As far as I am concerned, I really like those writers, even though their works are big and complex. I enjoy the novel Eugene Onegin very much. It is impressive, beautiful, and still very relevant to our life. It sounds very gorgeous to me. I hear people use many citations form it.

* My attitude to famous people in the history of my country is positive. I think their works and achievements in culture and science teach us to be persistent. They make us proud of our country. The more prominent and outstanding people we know, the better we understand what’s going on in current history of the world. Nothing is new, everything repeats itself in this life.

In conclusion, I want to say that in my opinion it is important to know famous people from your country because they are part of our history. You may become famous one day, too.

That’s all that I wanted to tell you about famous people in history of Russia.

FASHION

You are going to give a talk about fashion. You will have to start in 1.5 minutes and speak for not more than 2 minutes (10—12 sentences).

Remember to say:

● why fashion is so important for teenagers;

● what and who determines fashion trends for teenagers;

● what clothes are popular in your country;

● what your attitude to fashion is.

You have to talk continuously.

Now I am going to give a talk about fashion. It’s a very interesting topic to talk about.

* In my opinion, fashion is important for teenagers because they want to stand out among their friends. Girls follow fashion more than boys. They try to keep up with the latest changes in clothes, hairstyle, manicure, makeup, and accessories. Boys also try to dress up and look cool. As history of humankind says it has always been the case at all times. That’s the way it goes.

* To tell the truth, nowadays celebrities, bloggers, movie stars, and opinion leaders determine fashion trends for teenagers and even adults. the Internet enables us to get any information almost immediately. So any new features catch on among teens quickly.

* You know traditional clothing of past centuries remains only in museums. Nowadays, people in my country wear clothes that most people in other countries wear. It should be comfortable and of good quality. Formal suits and smart dresses are used only at official receptions. Sneakers, jeans, T-shirts, and casual wear rule the roost. That kind of thing.

* You won’t believe it but I hate shopping for clothes. That’s why I don’t like to follow fashion. I know you may say people judge you by what you wear. I have some comfortable clothes of a few years old and it doesn’t affect how I feel about myself. I wear something I feel good in. Of course, I keep in mind what is suitable for sport and what is okay for school. And I’ll never put on a swimming costume for my friend’s wedding. Nothing of the kind.

That’s all I wanted to tell you about fashion.

FINANCIAL LITERACY

You are going to give a talk about financial literacy. You will have to start in 1.5 minutes and speak for not 2 minutes – 10—12 sentences.

Remember to say:

• where you got the first lessons of basic financial knowledge;

• who told and taught you how to spend money and what for;

• how pocket money could help to become more independent;

• what your attitude to financial literacy is.

You have to talk continuously.

Now I am going to tell you about financial literacy. Everything revolves around money, so it is very important to be financially literate.

* To tell the truth, I got the first lesson of basic financial knowledge at high school. My friend and I wanted to earn money for new smartphones. We got a job at the store. We put food and cans on the shelves at night. It was terribly difficult and exhausting. A month later we received payment, but it was not enough even for a third of one smartphone. While our classmate developed a website as a freelancer and received ten times more money. That was a good lesson to learn!

* I have to admit that the first who taught me how to spend money was my brother. One day he said that he could drive a car for fun, or he could make money. In the first case, the car requires a lot of money for maintenance. But if the car carries people or goods, it pays off and makes a profit.

* I am 100% convinced that pocket money is a very necessary thing for teens to become more independent. If you are clever, you will understand quite quickly that it is easy to spend it for nothing and very difficult to put by for something worthy. If you are not, though, you will waste your money quickly. So you’ll be dependent again. But on the other hand, it may make you think about this problem, too.

* Naturally, my attitude to Financial literacy is very serious. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand that money rules the world. So you have to know how to take a credit or choose a better mobile tariff, calculate a mortgage or reckon up in your head how much you need for your holiday. That kind of thing.

That’s all that I wanted to tell you about financial literacy.

FREE TIME

You are going to give a talk about your free time. You will have to start in 1.5 minutes and speak for not more than 2 minutes (10—12 sentences).

Remember to say:

– whether you have a lot of free time, and why, or why not;

– what you enjoy doing in your free time;

– what your Sunday afternoons are like;

– what your attitude to planning your free time is.

You have to talk continuously.

Now I’m going to give a talk about my free time.

* To tell the truth, I don’t have enough free time. I even dare say I don’t know what «free time’ stands for. I wake up at 7 a.m. and the and from this moment a continuous carousel begins. I have 7 lessons at school. Then I run to extra classes. Three times a week, I go swimming. Also, I go to music school on weekends. I spend the rest of my time, doing terrible homework. Sometimes I fall asleep right at the table. That’s it!

* As I’ve just said, I have no free time. If I had, I’d probably spend it for travelling to some exotic places in the world. Or I would sleep as long as I could. Or something else to chill out from the eternal race for top score at school. Also, I have a dream to learn singing. You see so many desires.

* Honestly speaking, my Sunday afternoons are devoted to doing my homework. I try my best to do as many exercises as possible to feel easier during the week. So I am really in over the head on my Sunday afternoon.

* It is a tricky question. On the one side, I feel tired of many exercises and obligations. And I would like to have some more time just to hang out with my friends outside. On the other hand, I understand my future depends on my study and quality of education. So I have mixed feelings about planning my «free time’ whatever it is. That kind of thing.

That’s all I wanted to tell you about my free time.

GREAT PATRIOTIC WAR

You are going to give a talk about the Great Patriotic War. You will have to start in 1.5 minutes and speak for not more than 2 minutes (10—12 sentences).

Remember to say:

● why the Great Patriotic War is so important to our people;

● how people honour the memory of the dead in that war;

● why it is important for younger generation to keep the memory of the past;

● what your attitude to the Great Patriotic War is.

You have to talk continuously.

Now I am going to give a talk about the Great Patriotic War. This topic is sacred for our entire country.

* In my opinion, the Great Patriotic War is so important to our people because every family has their older relatives, who gave their lives for saving us and the whole world, too. Or ancestors won that awful war. However, the victory over a powerful and dangerous enemy cost or country over 20 million lives. They didn’t want fascism to win and wipe our country off the Earth.

* To tell the truth, our parents and grandparents, their generations are trying to honour the memory of the dead in that war. There are many books and films devoted to that time. Every year a victory parade takes place on Red Square. Recently, the people’s movement «Immortal Regiment’ has become popular. People go out onto the street with portraits of their relatives, who died in the Great Patriotic War. They are millions!

* I’m sure that it is important for younger generation to keep the memory of the past, undoubtedly. History teaches that everything repeats itself. Almost 80 years have passed after the Second World War. However, the number of wars around the world is increasing every year. Moreover, wars are becoming fiercer, crueler, more violent, and large-scale. In order to understand the causes of wars and know what to do, younger generation need to learn and remember, why wars happened in the past.

* You know my attitude to the Great Patriotic War is simple. Any war is a catastrophe. Just recently it has dawned on me that I am scared of dying. I just imagined that I was one of those 20 million and I felt bad. No one wants to die. I can’t imagine how brave and selfless our predecessors were. I’m afraid I’m not. So I advocate for «No war’.

That’s all I wanted to tell you about the Great Patriotic War.

***

Now I am going to give a talk about the Great Patriotic War.

* The Great Patriotic War has left a big mark in the life of each family in our country. To tell the truth, we all our our life and freedom to our grandparents and ancestors, who won in that war. Memory is an eternal reminder of millions, who left their families to fight with fascism. It’s also a reminding about historic laws. If you don’t defend your country, you may easily and quickly disappear. That’s the way it goes.

* As far as I can judge, mostly those events are passed down from generation to generation in families, they are depicted in books and films, they are studied in history lessons, and museums and memorials are organised in memory of them. In May, on Victory Day, people take to the streets with photographs of their ancestors, who took part in that terrible war.

* Honestly speaking, it is important for younger generation to keep the memory of the past because it is the best way to survive. If you don’t know how many lives your ancestors gave so that you could live in peace today, then you will not be able to recognise the real enemy and see the true threat to your existence. It’s a matter of survival. That’s it.

* No doubt that my attitude to the Great Patriotic War is respectful and serious. My relatives took part in it. Some died. It’s painful to think about that. They were a bit older than me. I am sure thy wanted to live and be happy, too. But they died to let my generation live and save our country. In turn, we must pass on these memories and knowledge to our children and grandchildren.

That’s all I wanted to tell you about the Great Patriotic War.

HEALTHY EATING HABITS

You are going to give a talk about healthy eating habits. You will have to start in 1.5 minutes and speak for not more than 2 minutes (10—12 sentences).

Remember to say:

● how many meals you have a day;

● what foods people should have in their diet to make it healthy;

● what unhealthy eating habits people should avoid and why;

● what your attitude to healthy eating is.

You have to talk continuously.

Now I’m going to give a talk about healthy eating habits.

* To begin with, I have three meals a day. I have my breakfast early in the morning before going to school. Upon coming back home from school I have my dinner, which is rather hearty. And finally, I have a sort of supper with my parents in the evening, around 8 p.m. That’s the way it goes.

* In my opinion, people should have a balanced mixture of proteins, fats, minerals, vitamins to make it healthy. They are in fruit and vegetables, cereals, a variety of fish and meat, eggs, dairy products. The thing is that you have to eat them separately and in small portions. It is better to eat more often then. That kind of thing.

* Of course, there are a lot of unhealthy eating habits, which people should avoid. The first one is water substitution. Many get by without water for years. Secondly, I would recommend to cut out sugar and sweets from meals at all. Thirdly, it is better to cut down some fat food and snacks. Otherwise, you will end up getting sick very quickly. It has already been proved by millions of negligent persons.

* Honestly speaking, my attitude to healthy eating habits is very positive. If you get used to eating food in small portions and in moderation, it won’t harm your health. You won’t suffer from a disruption of metabolism, diabetes, high pressure, and obesity. Plus, you shouldn’t forget about doing some exercise regularly. It’s another necessary part of healthy life style. Move actively, eat properly, and you will be enjoying your life for a long.

That’s all I wanted to tell you about healthy eating habits.

● what good and bad habits people have;

● what a healthy way of life is;

● what people should do to keep fit;

● what your attitude to a healthy lifestyle is.

You have to talk continuously.

Now I’m going to give a talk about healthy lifestyle.

* In my opinion, there are a lot of good and bad habits that people have. Doing sports, volunteering, helping others, reading, doing science are good ones. While smoking, drinking alcohol, drug addition, even watching TV or making screen time your way of life are very bad ones. To me, positive result to you and your relatives means a good habit. Destroying yourself and doing harm to your kin mean bad habits.

* To tell the truth, a healthy life style is a combination of activities, which help you be in a good mood, feel happy, keep fit, eat what you like, and stay healthy. That doesn’t mean to go to gym 7 days a week and look like a squeezed lemon. Nothing of the kind. There’s no need in any specific diet or cutting down fat food. Just move, do what you enjoy, eat small portions, and smile. That kind of thing.

* In my opinion, people should do not so much, if they want to keep fit. They simple should find some time to do some exercise every day. I mean regularly. It’s the main condition. It might be a 5-kilometre walk or swimming or playing a team sport, riding a bike -whatever you like. But you should do it on he regular base. That’s the way it goes.

* I have to admit that my attitude to a healthy life style is rather positive. I advocate for it. I don’t agree with smoking or drinking alcohol, never. But I always support your desire to play football or volleyball, walk in the park or go jogging together.

That’s all I wanted to tell you about a healthy life style.

• what your attitude to the healthy life style is.

You have to talk continuously.

Now I am going to tell you about my attitude towards healthy style of living. This topic is very important for me, too.

* To tell the truth, I follow the rules of healthy life. I stick to my diet and try to do sports regularly. It helps me keep fit and slim. I take care of my body and health. And I choose my food carefully.

* Honestly speaking, I have no special diet. It is light and not fat. I eat salads, lots of vegetables, and fruit. Also, I limit sweets and fat meals. They are harmful.

* You know, I go to fitness twice a week. It helps me to stay in shape. Also, I like dancing and often practice it. Those activities help me unwind and chill out from school. It makes me full of energy, too.

HISTORY OF YOUR COUNTRY

You are going to give a talk about history of your country. You will have to start in 1.5 minutes and speak for not more than 2 minutes (10—12 sentences).

Remember to say:

● why learning history of your country is so important;

● what facts are very essential in the history of your country;

● how the study of history is supported and propagated in your country;

● what your attitude to learning history is.

You have to talk continuously.

Now I am going to give a talk about history of my country. It’s a very essential topic to talk about.

* In my opinion, learning history of my country is very important because this demonstrates the most glorious and saddest periods of its existence. We study the reasons for these events. It helps us gain experience and knowledge that our ancestors did not have. We see what mistakes were made and we must not repeat them. We also learn from examples of wise decisions that helped preserve and develop our country. That kind of thing

* To tell the truth, the most important facts are the christening of Rus’ in 988 AD, the battle on Lake Peipus, victory in the Battle of Kulikovo and Molodi, victory in the War of 1812, the great victory over fascism in 1945. There were, though, no less significant victories in science, too. This is the creation of the university and academy of sciences by Lomonosov, the discoveries of Sechenov and Pavlov, the work of Kapitsa, Korolev, Gagarin’s flight into space. And many-many others.

* First of all, the study of history is supported in my country by the educational law. We have to study it at school and university. Secondly, there are a lot of different museums about different cultures of our multinational country. Thirdly, there are many books and films devoted to the past events and their analysis.

* You know I realised quite recently that history teaches us about one main thing. It says that everything repeats itself in society like seasons in nature – winter, spring, summer, and autumn. Wars break out regularly. Why? No wonder, the reasons have not changed for several thousand years. Transportation has varied from horses to airplanes, but serves the same purpose. Clothing changes from skins to costumes, but the purpose remains the same. Tools of labour have change from digging sticks to computers and also keep serving human beings. The human being has not been changing, though. So, history teaches us how, from millennium to millennium, humanity repeats the same mistakes. People strive to understand this pattern, but so far they cannot break out of the vicious circle of their repetition, unfortunately.

That’s all I wanted to tell you about history of my country.
